Top Corfu athletes in 2019 receive awards

CORFU. The Corfu branch of the Hellenic Athletics Federation (SEGAS) presented awards to the top 2019 athletes at the DOPAP hall in Faliraki.
Present at the Awards Ceremony were the Deputy Regional Governor for Corfu Melita Andrioti along with representives from the local authority and sports clubs.
Two former Olympic medallists were also present - Maria Giorgatou and Christos Meletoglos, who was there as a representative of the Federation.
The President of the local SEGAS branch Yiannis Lessis pointed out that this was the second year running that an Awards Ceremony was being held thanks to the successes of the youngsters. He also, however, referred to the problems that Corfu athletes face such as training difficulties during the winter and hoped that in 2020 Corfu can acquire a proper indoor training facility. Mr. Lessis went on to say that the Federation can see the work being done here and there are high hopes that the island will soon have an Olympic medal winner.
SEGAS Technical Advisor Nikos Moschos gave an account of the past year with special reference to Spyridoula Karydi who won Gold at the European Athletics U20 Championships in Boras, Sweden. He said that along with the top athletes, honorary awards would also be presented to the former Corfu Port Authority President Spyros Stefanidis and to Sakis Kaloudis.
Deputy Regional Governor Melita Andrioti expressed her pride at the successes of the young athletes, who carry Corfu's flag high and are living examples of excellence.
