Police on alert following discovery of suspicious package at Post Office

CORFU. Today΄s case at Corfu Post Office is similar to that in Lesvos today.
The discovery of another suspicious package today led to the police and Fire Service being alerted. Suspicions were aroused due to the fact that the package had the name of the same Indian sender as the one in Mytilene. Both packages were also addressed to the Dean of the University. In Mytilene suspicious powder was discovered which is being examined at the "Demokritos" National Centre of Scientific Research to find out what it contains.
In Corfu the police and Fire Service were immediately alerted and they cordoned off the area in Alexandras Ave. around the Post Office so that experts in special gear could remove the package. The Post Office doors were closed and staff and customers who were there at the time were taken to the hospital to be examined. Traffic is flowing normally and the matter is under investigation.
Another two suspicious packages addressed to universities were discovered in Athens and Crete. According to initial information, the packages were sent yesterday but were not opened. When they were discovered the authorities quickly followed the necessary procedures.
It hasn't yet been confirmed if there was powder in the package in Crete but it was considered suspicious and is being examined. Powder has, however, been discovered in the other two packages.
In Corfu the package wasn't delivered to the university as it was deemed suspicious whilst still at the Post Office and proper procedures were followed. In Athens the package was delivered to the Dean's office at the Metsovio National Technical University.
The packages will be sent to the National Chemical Lab for the contents to be examined and an announcement is expected after this.
The package for the Aegean University (Mytilene) was sent to the State General Chemical Lab at 5 o'clock this morning on an armed forces C 130 aeroplane.
Experts are also examining university property as the security procedure requires. The Aegean University in Mytilene has been closed indefinitely.
