CORFU. American travel agents, members of ASTA, arrived in Corfu on Wednesday morning.
ASTA held its annual conference in Athens at the weekend. The American delegation, led by Vice-President Robert Duglin, accepted an invitation to visit Corfu from the Municipality and fedHatta, the equivalent Greek association of travel agents.
ASTA is one of the largest professional bodies in the world. At the moment it has 8,944 members from 3,586 American companies and agencies and represents 82% of the total travel bookings via travel agencies. It also represents the National
Association of Career Travel Agents (NACTA).
They were received in Corfu by Deputy Mayor for Tourism, Vassilis Kavadias, and fedHatta representative Vassilis Kontos and will meet with representatives from the local authority and tourism professionals. The American conference attendees divided into separate groups and are visiting eight Greek destinations.
They will be welcomed at an event on Mouse Island, the trademark of Brand Corfu, and will also visit Palaiokastritsa, some hotels and other sights. On Friday they will travel to Saranda (Ag. Saranda). As local tourism professionals said, the possibility to arrive at the airport or port here and visit two countries is a valuable added advantage in international tourism.
