CORFU. The Regional Medical Clinic in Acharavi, located right next to the Town Hall, has been designated as its base.

The official launch of the ambulance service EKAB’s North Corfu base marks the end of years of anxiety and waiting for the region’s residents.

Christos Kypriotis, president of the EKAB Corfu employees’ union, told Enimerosi that the new branch represents a vital step forward for emergency medical coverage in the northern part of the island.

The creation of the new branch is finally becoming a reality. The key step of staffing has already been completed, as the new paramedics who will man the service are set to be sworn in on October 20 at EKAB’s central headquarters in Athens.

Eight paramedics and a fully equipped ambulance in Acharavi

Shortly after their swearing-in, the eight new paramedics will assume duty in North Corfu. The branch will cover the entire northern region of the island, starting operations with one fully equipped ambulance, while two additional staff members are expected to join at a later stage.

The Regional Medical Clinic in Acharavi, located right next to the Town Hall, has been designated as its base. The location was chosen strategically, as Acharavi is considered the heart of North Corfu — ensuring rapid and efficient emergency coverage across the wider area.

In the event of serious emergencies, the North Corfu team will also receive support from the central EKAB unit in Corfu Town, ensuring continuous and reinforced emergency response when needed.

The launch of EKAB’s Northern Corfu Sector fulfills a long-standing demand of local residents. The new facility is expected to dramatically reduce response times for patients in need of urgent medical care — especially important for a region located far from the island’s main hospital.

This long-awaited development marks the beginning of a new era for healthcare and public safety in North Corfu, offering reassurance not only to permanent residents but also to the thousands of visitors who flock to the area every year.
