As he said, the right conditions for the formation of a government do not exist.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis will return this afternoon the exploratory mandate he received from the Greek President earlier today.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis asked the Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou for another vote on 25 June during their meeting at the Presidential Palace, where he was given the exploratory mandate to form a government, in accordance with the Constitution.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis said that he will return the exploratory mandate this afternoon as he said that the right conditions for the formation of a government do not exist.
He even called for the second round of elections to be held on 25 June instead of 2 July. "The country needs a strong and stable government with a 4-year perspective. As soon as this is settled the better for the country."
He made a special reference to the increased voter turnout in the elections and the vote of Greeks living abroad.
The Prime Minister insisted that "the best thing for the country is to discuss the real problems, how to increase wages and how to support the welfare state, but also talk about the challenges and issues concerning the new generation".
The Greek President pointed out that the Constitution is clear and she estimated that everyone will contribute by following the prescribed procedures to reach the best result for the country.
On leaving the Presidential Palace, Kyriakos Mitsotakis did not answer whether he would contact the other political leaders.
