Election campaign booths being set up

CORFU. The first booth to be set up was that belonging to MeRA25 in Annunziata Square, ahead of the speech to be given by leader Yanis Varoufakis at 19:00 on Sunday 7 May in St. Spyridon Square (Plakada).

In the final stretch leading up to the general election on May 21st, the party booths in Corfu are being set up for their pre-election rallies and speeches.

The first booth to be set up was that belonging to MeRA25 in Annunziata Square, ahead of the speech to be given by leader Yanis Varoufakis at 19:00 on Sunday 7 May in St. Spyridon Square (Plakada).

The planning for these events began after a meeting called on Wednesday morning by Spiros Moraitis, the President of the Planning and Determination Commission for the parties' pre-election events of the parties and the determination of the outdoor advertising spaces for them.

Recommended locations

According to the proposals given by party representatives at the meeting, the following locations have been recommended:

Nea Dimokratia (ND): Friday 19/5 - Speech in St. Spyridon Square (Plakada)
SYRIZA: Tuesday 16/5 or Thursday 18/5 - Speech in Annunziata Square
PASOK: Friday 12/5 at 8 p.m. - Speech outside National Bank or Annunziata Square
KKE (Communist party): Tuesday 16/5 or Thursday 18/5 - Speech at Porta Reale
MeRA25: Sunday 7/5 at 7 p.m. - Speech by Yanis Varoufakis in St. Spyridon Square (Plakada)

Campaign booths

With regard to the setting up of their pre-election booths, the New Democracy party proposes the space outside Marks and Spencer, SYRIZA suggests the end of Voulgareos St., PASOK-KINAL has requested that the location be selected by the municipality, KKE has proposed outside Tsoukala opticians and MeRA25 proposed Annunziata Square.

In statements made by the Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Moraitis, it was said that there was agreement between the parties on all procedural matters with minor differences that will be examined by the Municipal Council. "I believe that the differences are minimal and I do not think that there will be a problem," he said. "As for the poster sites, they are different, while the communication between the representatives was such that the speeches or other events of the parties will not coincide."
