Second major roadworks contract signed

CORFU. The project for the improvement of the main road network in North Corfu will be completed in 18 months.

The major roadworks contract for the ‘Improvement of the main road network in North Corfu’ with a €3,837,850 budget, which was signed today, is finally starting to take shape.
 
The Ionian Islands Region Governor Rodi Kratsa and the contracting company ‘Georgios Veronikis’, based in Athens, signed the contract this morning at a special event at the Velonades Cultural Society. The Regional Council President Nikos Mouzakitis, the Deputy Regional Governor Kostas Zorbas, the Deputy Regional Governor for Infrastructure and Technical Works Manolis Orphanoudakis, the Deputy Governor for Welfare Melita Andrioti, as well as the Presidents of all the Municipalities, were present at the signing.
 
 
To be completed in 18 months
 
The project is set to be completed within 18 months. It concerns the maintenance and repair of the main road network in North Corfu.
 
It includes works to make the roads safe, as well as necessary works to restore flood protection work, so that it is operating properly, and to repair the existing technical works or construct new ones. It also includes the necessary road safety projects.


Where the works will be carried out
 
The works will be carried out in the following areas:
 
- Tzavros, Dassia, Ipsos, Barbati, Roda, Acharavi, Sidari
 
- Bridge of Doctors, Troumpeta, Horoepiskopi, Kavalouri, Karousades
 
- Troumpeta junction, Agros, Velonades

 
As planned, large sections of the roads in need of repair will be resurfaced, while smaller sections where new asphalt will be laid will not be less than 100 metres.
 
It is worth noting that this is the second major roadworks contract out of the four for the Corfu Region that has been signed. Similar contracts for the ‘Improvement of the main Corfu-Kavos road and secondary road network in South Corfu’, with a €3,003,000 budget, and the ‘Improvement of rural road network in Oroi and Northwest Corfu’, with a €4,512,500 budget, are expected to follow.
