Maintenance work in Esperia school units, North Corfu

CORFU. Velonades 2nd Special Kindergarden, Amfipagites Junior High School in Peroulades, Avliotes Primary School.

Under the care and technical supervision of the Municipality of North Corfu, with the municipal technical services team under the supervision of Deputy Mayor Hariton Koutsouris, and in collaboration with Municipal Council President, Panayiotis Papadatos, an extensive maintenance programme is currently underway on the school roofs in the school complexes of North Corfu Municipality. This programme includes both small and large-scale works.

Despite the challenges caused by the abolition of school committees, various works have been rapidly completed in Esperia school units:

1. Special kindergarden in Velonades: The old Velonades kindergarten has been reconstructed, all sanitary facilities – for both staff and students – have been renewed, the classroom has been fully equipped with the necessary teaching equipment as required by law, and the yard has been fenced. All the above work follows the legal standards for special kindergartens. The 1st Special Kindergarten is already in operation until a new one is built.

2. Amfipagites Junior High: The renovation of the sanitary facilities and boiler room has been completed, and dangerous buildings were demolished. These interventions also include work done in the yard, despite the negativecriticism from the "Andreas Kalvos" Association

3. Avliotes Primary School: Extensive roof repairs were completed, along with the installation of exterior tiles at the entrance of the school to enhance its appearance.

It is worth noting that North Corfu Municipality maintains an open communication channel with the school community to address long-standing issues, as well as any problems that arise during the school year.

It is also important to highlight that actions in this direction are ongoing, despite the difficulties caused by the abolition of school committees and the extremely inadequate funding for school facilities.
