North Corfu Municipality participates in waste management forum
CORFU. Municipalities from regions of Greece that apply the principles of the Circular Economy participated.
(North Corfu Municipality) The Municipality of North Corfu participated in the "1st Forum of Municipalities that Adopt and Implement Circular Economy Principles in Waste Management," where good practices from municipalities across Greece were presented.
During the Forum, the Municipality of North Corfu highlighted: a) the initiatives it has adopted and promoted from 2019 to the present, with a focus on operating 210 recycling corners and developing 15 different recycling streams; b) the everyday challenges it faces, such as the enormous cost of transporting waste to Palairos and the potential increase in cost if Dodoni becomes the final destination. The municipality also reiterated its firm stance on the creation of a Biowaste Treatment Unit on the island, which would contribute to sustainable waste management.
The exchange of good ideas and practices among municipalities is of critical importance for strengthening the circular economy at the local level. Through such initiatives, municipalities can effectively contribute to environmental protection, waste reduction, and the promotion of recycling. Active collaboration and the adoption of innovative solutions strengthen sustainable development goals, laying the groundwork for a greener and more sustainable society. The forum was a significant step toward a coordinated and holistic approach to the environmental challenges faced by municipalities across Greece.
