Bidding terms approved for Vrioni-Moraitika road safety projects

CORFU. At the same time, the contract was signed for the project "Maintenance of street lighting and traffic signalling of the Lefkada Regional Unit provincial road network for three years."
(Ionian Islands Regional Authority) The Ionian Islands Regional Authority is entering the final stretch for the tendering of the project "Upgrade of Road Safety on Vrioni-Moraitika Road in the Corfu Regional Unit," with a budget of €5,890,000, as the bidding terms were approved by the Regional Committee. This is a key project for the wider area, which will greatly contribute to the improvement of road safety in a 15 km area with a high traffic load, especially during the summer months.
At the same time, the Ionian Islands Regional Governor, Yiannis Trepeklis, signed the contract for the project "Maintenance of street lighting and traffic signalling of the Lefkada Regional Unit provincial road network of for three years." This is a project with a budget of €250,000 (including VAT), which involves the construction and maintenance of electromechanical installations for street lighting and traffic signals under the responsibility of the Lefkada Regional Unit. The project also includes preventive maintenance of the networks, which will be carried out upon the instructions of the Technical Works Department of the Lefkada Regional Unit.
As the Regional Governor stated: "The Ionian Islands Region consistently implements maintenance and upgrade projects for its road infrastructure. Our goal is always to enhance road safety for all citizens on our islands."
Mr. Trepeklis, while inspecting the asphalt paving works in the Kanoni area of the Corfu Regional Unit, accompanied by the Deputy Regional Governor for Technical Works & Planning, Giorgos Mamalos, expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the works. He noted the significance of these developments, both in this highly visited area of Corfu and in other major projects across all Regional Units, which will play a crucial role in improving road safety.
"The work in the Kanoni area was necessary, and we are completing it, staying true to our pre-election commitments and fulfilling a fair request from our fellow citizens to improve road safety in a part of Corfu that experiences heavy traffic, especially during the summer months," stated the Regional Governor. He further added:
"We are pleased to announce that the bidding terms have been approved for a major project in South Corfu—specifically, the upgrade of the Vrioni–Moraitika road network, with an estimated budget of nearly six million euros. This is an essential project, as the current conditions on the road from Vrioni to Lefkimmi are unacceptable for all of us—not only in terms of quality but, more importantly, regarding road safety.
I want to thank both the Deputy Regional Governor for Technical Works and the staff of our services, who, despite the challenges they face, are doing everything necessary to meet the needs of our citizens."
