CORFU. "He can΄t be exempted from the charges due to psychological pressure," said the Prosecutor, who nevertheless said there was no substantial danger to public health and referred to the special circumstances of the Agios Spyridon procession and the Archbishop΄s compliance afterwards.

The Prosecutor has asked for Nektarios, Archbishop of Corfu, Paxos & Diapontia Islands, to be found guilty but with mitigating circumstances for the second case - conducting a service on Palm Sunday with the procession of St. Spyridon's sacred relics with more than the allowed number of people present.

The Prosecutor said that the psychological pressure he was under shouldn't lead to exemption from the charges, but nevertheless said there was no substantial danger to public health and that the Archbishop has since been compliant with the law. She also referred to the special circumstances of the Agios Spyridon procession.

According to the Prosecutor, the number of people in the church was greater than that allowed but this didn't create a great risk due to the fact that social distancing was being observed.

The Prosecutor also recommended that the other two who have been charged - Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Municipal Council President Dimitris Metallinos and Municipal Director for the organisation of ceremonies and events Fotis Skourtis - be found guilty but without mitigating circumstances.
