CORFU. Acting swiftly, the judicial officer managed to stop the man.

A judicial police officer saved the life of an elderly citizen who attempted to jump from the second floor of the Corfu Courthouse following a guilty verdict. Acting swiftly, the officer managed to stop the man. The officer called the police, who, with the assistance of a specialised team and a psychologist, took care of the elderly man.

Following the incident, the President of Corfu Lawyers' Association, Yiannis Kondos, praised the operation of the Court Police in Corfu in a statement.

“As we criticise government decisions that are wrong and have negative consequences, we must also commend decisions that are in the right direction and benefit society. One such decision was the establishment of the Judicial Police, which was staffed in Corfu last year with seven individuals. These are people who guard the Courthouse, safeguard judicial proceedings, and serve with dedication and selflessness, performing their duties impeccably.

“This young man deserves congratulations for the way he acted, in a split second, as his intervention prevented a serious injury and even a potential loss of life."
