CORFU. The Municipality has announced that EU citizens residing in Greece can vote and stand for election in the upcoming elections in May 2019 without having to have Greek citizenship.
In the upcoming elections in May EU citizens will be able for the first time to vote for their regional authority as long as they are registered in their local Municipal voting catalogues.
EU citizens who wish to vote or stand for election in the European Parliament Election and the Greek local elections will need to be registered in their local Municipal voting catalogues.
To register in the voting catalogues you need to go to your local Municipality with an ID card or passport and fill in the required form. To be eligible for registration the EU voter has to be residing in the Municipality or to show in any way that he or she is at least temporarily resident there.
The deadline for registration in the voting catalogues for the upcoming local and European elections is 28 February 2019.
