CORFU. Enimerosi photographed some of the dozens of danger spots on the North Corfu roads.
The dreadful state of the road surfaces, signage and lighting isn’t news to anyone – residents complain about it daily and report it in whatever way they can.
Road surfaces split open, erosion, subsidence, broken lighting poles, road signs that have been destroyed, incomplete roadworks and damaged bridges and walls.
Enimerosi photographed just a few of the dozens of danger spots on the North Corfu roads.
In the meantime, work is about to begin on road repairs – at least, that was what was announced by the Regional Administration a month ago.
Patch-up jobs
From the funds available it’s obvious that major work cannot be done – in other words, patch-up jobs resurfacing some areas and building some supports. In January two contracts were signed for 700,000 Euros for road maintenance and repair work in Corfu. That is the total amount for both the north and south – so for the roads in the north that means 350,000 Euros!
According to the contracts, the work to be carried out will be “maintenance of the country roads and the maintenance and improvement of the road network.”
