A large-scale forest fire exercise was held today, Monday 15 May, in all the Regional Fire Departments of the country. The scenarios of the exercises involved the response to a large-scale forest fire in real time with the participation of operational units of all bodies involved in such incidents.

In the framework of the exercise, the Civil Protection Coordinating Body met on the instructions of the Corfu Fire Chief Nikolaos Kolovos and it was decided to evacuate Loutses in an organised manner.

30 firefighters took part with 12 fire engines, 3 water tankers and a North Corfu Municipal Civil Protection bus, while the police, the Corfu radio amateurs, the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (DEDIE) and 5 members of the Corfu Search and Rescue Team (EMED) also participated. The Ionian Islands Regional Civil Protection was present at the exercise as well.

The effectiveness of the cooperation of the bodies involved was very important for the success of the exercises, in order to deal with similar incidents during the 2023 fire ban period.
