CORFU. The author was known for her books about Corfu and Epirus in Greek and English.

The earlier report had the simple title "Foreign national, 76, dies in sea in Dassia". We soon learned, however, that the "foreign national" who was pulled out of the sea unconscious in Dassia on Saturday morning was none other than the Corfu author Maria Strani-Potts.

Ms. Strani-Potts, who divided her time between the UK and Corfu and Epirus, went for a swim but never came back. It is probable that she had a cardiac episode.

She was married to the author Jim Potts, who worked for years for the British Council in Athens and Thessaloniki.

MARIA STRANI-POTTS was born in Corfu in 1946. She graduated from the School of Slavonic and East European Studies at the University of London. From 1969 she travelled with her husband, who worked for the British Council. She lived in Ethiopia, Kenya, England, Greece, Czechoslovakia, Sweden and Australia, where she lived in Sydney for seven years.

Enimerosi expresses its deepest condolences to her husband Jim, family and friends.
