Driver, 24, arrested after hitting police cyclist in pedestrian area

CORFU. A preliminary investigation into the case was conducted by Corfu Traffic Police, during which the car was also confiscated.

A 24-year-old man was arrested on Thursday afternoon, 06/03, by the Traffic Police for dangerous driving, disobedience, violence against public officials and damage to property. Specifically:

The young man was spotted, stopped, and arrested after, shortly beforehand, while driving a vehicle on a pedestrian street in the town, he ignored a signal for inspection from bicycle-mounted officers of the Tourist Police. He then performed "dangerous maneouvres, resulting in a collision with the police officer’s bicycle and causing the officer minor injuries," according to the police statement.

The 24-year-old was fined €1,700, and his vehicle registration documents (registration permit and license plates) were confiscated.

A preliminary investigation into the case was conducted by the Corfu Traffic Department, during which the car was also seized.

The arrested individual was brought to appear before the Corfu Prosecutor.
