ATHENS. The company responded to an invitation from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport for innovative proposals.

And suddenly, a holistic plan to address Corfu’s water supply reemerges. In a single report, general and lacking details, it is said that GEK TERNA has a plan that will strategically address Corfu’s issues and may extend to tackle mainland problems or combine the possibilities and solutions for both areas.

It is described as the company's response to an invitation from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport for innovative proposals.

According to the report, which was shared on various websites, GEK TERNA’s proposal for Corfu’s water supply is an ambitious project aimed at improving the island’s water system. At the same time, the possibility of extending it to the wider Epirus region is being examined, although the exact scope of the project remains unclear.

The main aspects are outlined as follows:

  • Improvement of the water supply system: Upgrading existing infrastructure and constructing new ones.
  • New pipeline networks: For water transportation to various parts of the island.
  • New reservoirs: For water storage and ensuring sufficient quantities during periods of high demand.
  • Construction of new pumping stations: To improve water pressure and distribution.
  • Creation or upgrading of water treatment plants: To ensure the quality of drinking water.
  • Installation of permanent desalination units.

The plan is described as a combination of public (with European funding) and private investments.
