CORFU. At 11:00, the mayor is calling the heads of the municipal council factions to a meeting to announce his intention to declare a state of emergency for the municipality!

The local authorities are making a counter-move in response to the government’s initiative to hold a meeting today, Monday, at the PM's Office regarding the island's water supply.  The Regional Governor Yiannis Trepeklis and Central Corfu Mayor Stefanos Poulimenos will meet urgently this afternoon due to the prolonged drought and its impact on the network's water adequacy. Meanwhile, at 11:00, the mayor is calling the heads of the council factions to the municipal council to announce his intention to declare a state of emergency for the municipality. According to sources, the municipal authority believes that this step could secure the urgent funding required.

It should be noted that Mayor Stefanos Poulimenos handed a memorandum on water issues to the prime minister during his pre-election visit here, requesting immediate emergency funding of 10 million, a request that has never been fulfilled.
