Corfu MP Alexandros Avlonitis at events for the Day of Remembrance of Genocide of the Greeks of Asia Minor
CORFU. "We should remember that our forefathers were also refugees who prospered and helped Greece in many ways"
The Corfu Syriza MP Alexandros Avlonitis attended the events for the Day of Remembrance of the Genocide of the Greeks of Asia Minor. He made the following statement:
"At the events for the Day of Remembrance of the Genocide of the Greeks of Asia Minor". A wreath in memory of Greeks who have been killed, tortured, uprooted from their land, become refugees, but stood erect, proud and creative, by being an example of strength and the will to live.
We never forget that Asia Minor disaster was a consequence of the national schism and everyone should be taught the importance of unity, solidarity, prudence and compassion. We should remember this at all levels of our lives, both in politics, in society and in our daily practices.
We should remember that our forefathers were also refugees who prospered and helped Greece in many ways.
Last but not least, we should remember our history, our roots and memories so that we do not repeat the mistakes of the past. So that, as Greeks, we may eventually understand that only unity and cooperation will move this country forward."
