CORFU. Alekos Avlonitis categorically condemned behaviour that belongs in the past.
Following Corfu Workers Centre's statement regarding the trainee chef's complaint that he had suffered ill-treatment and abuse at a Corfu restaurant, the Corfu SYRIZA MP said: "I unequivocally condemn the behaviour of the business towards the young trainee - behaviour which reminds one of times past. I would like to express my complete support for the young man and his family - for the injuries to his body and his spirit from his supervisors, which, according to his complaint to the Workers Centre, the management was aware of.
I would like to declare publically that I will do whatever is necessary to shed light on this serious matter and for the exemplary punishment of those physically and morally responsible as part of my parliamentary duties. I will take it to the highest level so that measures can be taken to prevent 'ill-treatment and abuse' at work from happening again.
Finally, I call upon the Ministry for Employment to reflect on the fact that in its election campaign ND promised the earth to employers and now that they have come to power employers have been emboldened to threaten trainees and other workers, confident in the support of the government.
Their ultimate target is SEPE (Hellenic Labour Inspectorate), which is the shield protecting workers.
They will find themselves up against us. They will not get away with it."
