Gikas΄ water supply initiative
CORFU. Mayors called to meeting on Friday. Desalination plants will be installed in at least the South.
In view of the problem of water supply, the General Secretary of Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Island Policy Stefanos Gikas is calling the mayors and others involved to a meeting next Friday. Two general secretaries will participate in the meeting, which will probably be held at the Regional Authority head office. According to information received, under this initiative, desalination plants will be installed in at least South Corfu.
The intervention falls under the Ministry's jurisdiction. Recently, Stefanos Gikas in a review of his visit to Chania mentioned that "with regard to the burning issue of the shortage of water, in the last four years the General Secretary of Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Island Policy responsible for the Aegean has already given 2.2 million euros to the Municipality of Chania for projects regarding the improvement, installations and distribution of water and boreholes.
