CORFU. Guided Tour Dates & Times: Friday, 25 September, 11:00–12:00 (15 people per group) Saturday, 26 September, 11:00–12:00 (15 people per group)

European Heritage Days 2026, under the general theme “Heritage at Risk”, will take place from 25 to 27 September, inviting the public to museums and archaeological sites across the country.

Corfu Museum of Asian Art, responding to this year’s theme, is participating with the event “From Gandhara to Bamiyan: Bridges of Culture and Shadows of Destruction”.

The themed guided tour will highlight, through the Museum’s collections, cultural heritage that is under threat. The tour will begin with the Greco-Buddhist art of Gandhara, which flourished across present-day Pakistan and Afghanistan, and will continue through to the tragic destruction of the Bamiyan Buddha statues. It will then turn to the destruction suffered by monuments of Khmer civilisation in Cambodia as a result of the civil war, highlighting a heritage that is being lost through conflict.

The event provides an opportunity to reflect on cultural heritage at risk and the trauma caused by the loss of the world’s shared cultural memory.

Through the collections it preserves and showcases, the Museum is actively contributing to the public dialogue on the protection and management of cultural heritage at a time of intense geopolitical and climate-related crises.
