Mexican and Greek remanded in custody for theft and drug offences

CORFU. They were arrested on Sunday evening, and a criminal case was filed against them.

It was deemed that the 31-year-old Mexican and the 38-year-old Greek, who were arrested in Corfu last Sunday, 4 February, for thefts, burglaries, and drug offences, ahould be remanded in custody following their statements.

After being brought before the Corfu Prosecutor and facing criminal charges, the two defendants were referred to the Corfu Magistrate for a preliminary examination. Yesterday, 7 February, following their statements, it was ordered that they should be remanded in custody.

The Mexican national was located and arrested by police on Sunday evening following a call for a burglary at a hair salon in Corfu Town, from which he stole a laptop.

 

However, from the police investigation, it emerged that the 31-year-old, along with his 38-year-old Greek accomplice, had earlier broken into a pharmacy and a hotel on the outskirts of the town, stealing a total of 200 Euros, a plethora of drugs and psychotropic pills, as well as alcoholic beverages.

The 38-year-old was also located and arrested following searches by the police team.

During the preliminary investigation conducted by the police, the stolen laptop was found and confiscated, as well as the majority of the drugs and psychotropic pills. Criminal charges of aggravated theft and violations of drug laws were filed against the two detainees.
