Restoration work on Mantzaros monument in Garitsa Cemetery completed

The study of the project began early last year, work commenced on December 20, 2023, with the signing of the contract, and on January 18 of the current year, the project was delivered.

This funerary monument was created following a decision by the Municipality of Corfu in 1889. Therefore, the cleaning and highlighting of the monument of Nikolaos Mantzaros constitute an obvious and long overdue obligation to our composer and to what he contributed.

The cost of the project was jointly undertaken by the Municipality of Central Corfu and the 'Old' Philharmonic Society, where Mantzaros served as the artistic director until his death in 1872. The laborious and highly specialized work of cleaning was undertaken by the conservator Zaira-Alexandra Papadatou.
