Heavy fine for owner who trained dog using electric collar
CORFU. The dog was taken away by order of the Prosecutor and adopted.
The Prosecutor ordered the removal of a dog from its owner, after it was found that the owner was using an electric collar for the training of the animal.
The incident took place on September 22, following a complaint. The police, who went to the village in Corfu, located the hunting dog and proceeded to apprehend the man, while the prosecutor ordered the removal of the animal.
The 1½-year-old female dog, which had become afraid, was examined by the Director of the Veterinary Service, and after its removal, it was taken in by an animal welfare organisation. It was spayed and adopted by responsible individuals who wish to care for it.
The owner was charged with a violation of the law on the welfare of pets and was fined 30,000 Euros.
Electric collars prohibited
The electric collar is a device that is prohibited by law due to the fact that it causes painful stimuli, such as electric shocks.
Nevertheless, these devices are freely sold online, and it depends solely on the conscience of each owner who wishes to prevent their dog from behaving in undesirable ways.
However, these collars have serious psychological and physical effects on animals, such as fear, panic attacks, aggressiveness or even madness.
