Water company to set up surveillance cameras to combat sabotage
CORFU. "They are cutting the cables, which means that someone wants to cause damage and cut off water in these areas."
The DIADEYAK water company is planning to address the repeated acts of vandalism that have occurred in the drilling area of South Corfu by installing security cameras. The mayor, Kostas Lessis, has also reported these incidents.
During a press conference, Vasilis Argyros, a member of the administrative board, stated that there is a serious problem.
"Last week, we had extensive vandalism at the Neohoraki springs and wells. The damage was quickly repaired, but yesterday we had vandalism again at three wells. Complaints were filed and DIADEYAK decided to improve surveillance of the area with cameras. As you know, this area is located on a road. We have some minor problems, but I believe we will solve them in the near future.
However, there is a serious problem. What makes us believe it's vandalism is that it's not theft. It's just the cutting of cables, which means that someone wants to cause damage and cut off water in these areas. We cannot know why they are doing it," said Vasilis Argyros.
