Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting students receive awards at Old Town Hall
CORFU. On the initiative of Corfu Albert Cohen Association there was an awards ceremony at San Giacomo Old Town Hall in collaboration with the Ionian University Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting.
Yesterday, at the San Giacomo Old Town Hall, Mayor Meropi Ydraiou welcomed six students from the Ionian University at an award ceremony held in their honour. The initiative was organised by Corfu Albert Cohen Association in collaboration with the Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting of the Ionian University.
The group of 4th year Ionian University students, consisting of Dimitra Anastasiou, Asimina Velentza, Anna Laspa, Dora Molianaki, Katerina Strati and Georgia Tsoukala, were presented with awards for their participation as representatives of the Hellenic Republic in the simulation of the European Council's operation, which took place in Brussels on February 2nd and 3rd.
The simulation took place under real conditions, in the rooms where the Ministers of the European Union member states and national experts hold their meetings, while the 27 national delegations were called upon to discuss two regulation proposals drafted by the European Commission.
The President of the Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting, Ioannis Karras, was present at the event as well as Professor Michalis Politis who was the head coordinator of the project, and Professor Stavros Kozompolis who teaches at the department. Also present was the President of Corfu Albert Cohen Association, Spyros Yiourgas, accompanied by members of the Board of Directors.
The Mayor congratulated the professors for the implementation of this important outreach initiative, as well as the students who made the best use of their knowledge and skills, negotiating on equal terms with their partners and taking advantage of the advice provided by representatives of the European Commission and the Legal Service of the Council.
Finally, she thanked the President and the Board of Directors of Corfu Albert Cohen Association for their important contribution and support for initiatives related to education, social and cultural issues.
