CORFU. The funds come from the proceeds from one of the two properties bequested by Ioannis Dragonetis to Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands Municipality.
Central Corfu Municipality has approved funding of €140,000 for four institutions - €35,000 for each of the following: Corfu Orphanage, the old peoples home, the day care centre for the elderly and the municipal childcare centre.
The Municipality announced that the funds come from the proceeds from one of the two properties bequested by Ioannis Dragonetis to Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands Municipality.
The acceptance of the bequest was decided in 1989, when Ioannis Kourkoulos was Mayor, and the procedure was completed in 1991. There was no progress after that until the local authority recently completed all the bureaucratic procedures to utilise municipal property.
The Deputy Mayor's office for Finance and the Municipal Public Property Department took all the necessary steps and one of the two properties was sold at auction.
There was no interest in the second property but the procedure will soon be repeated so that the desire of the bequeather can be fulfilled.
