PAXOS. The two boys were born fifteen minutes apart and, wrapped in thermal blankets, were flown to Corfu Airport and transferred to Corfu Hospital.

A 28-year-old woman gave birth to two healthy boys at 13:00 on Sunday at Paxos heliport, where she had been taken in order to be transferred by ambulance service helicopter to Corfu Hospital.

Due to the strong southerly winds in the Ionian it hadn't been possible to transfer the woman earlier. Paxos Health Centre Director Michalis Kantas decided that the woman, who had started having birth pains, needed to be transferred to Corfu Hospital urgently and called for a helicopter.

Michalis Kantas told the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (AMNA) the ambulance service helicopter came from Aktion with a doctor and nurse. He himself accompanied the pregnant woman in the ambulance from the health centre to the heliport and as soon as they got there she started to give birth. The director and the helicopter medical personnel assisted with the birth in the ambulance,
