CORFU. Members of the public are advised to be particularly careful and take measures to protect themselves from the weather conditions.

According to the National Meteorological Service a new wave of severe weather called 'Eva' is expected in our country. Thus it will cause a deterioration in Corfu's weather as well from Friday 4 November until Sunday 6 November. There will be heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds.

The Central Corfu Civil Protection Service advises members of the public to be particularly careful and take measures to protect themselves from the weather conditions.

All responsible municipal services are ready to deal with any problems that may arise.

Thus, the guidelines below should be followed:

- Avoid non-essential movement during the severe weather conditions.
- Secure doors and windows.
- Avoid areas with torrents.
- Be informed via the media and follow the guidelines from the Civil Protection General Secretariat, the National Meteorological Service weather forecasts and recommendations from local authorities such as the Traffic Police, Coast Guard, Fire Department etc.
- Secure any objects that may be taken by the wind or heavy downpour and possible cause damage or injury.
- Ensure that the drains outside the house aren't blocked and that water is flowing properly.
- Avoid outdoor activities during severe weather conditions (risk of being struck by lightning).
- Take shelter immediately during a hailstorm in a building or car and do not leave until the storm has passed. Hailstorm can be very dangerous for animals as well.
- Avoid passing by large trees, signs and, in general, areas where there are light objects (e.g. pots, broken glass etc.) which can break away and fall to the ground (e.g. under a balcony).

General guidelines are available on the Civil Protection General Secretariat website (www.civilprotection.gr).
