CORFU. The Corfu 6th Nursery School pupils have set an example for all.
The pupils of the Corfu 6th Nursery School have set a good example by showing their love for stray animals.
Completing the ‘Our friends the animals’ programme from the Skill Labs, the young pupils decided to show their interest by collecting animal food for the stray animals. The food for the cats and dogs, which have no home and food, had been collected with the help of their parents, in order to offer it to their four-legged friends in the coming days!
There has been a great response from the pupils and they managed to collect tinned and dried food within a short period of time, because, as they said, “the dogs and cats that have no home and food are also living creatures and they get sad when no one cares about them...”.
“I wish we would all think so simply and offer our love as generously as the children do,” said the nursery school's teacher Margarita Zervou Psaila.

This action was prompted by the Skill Labs entitled ‘Our friends the animals’, as they gave the pupils the opportunity to become active citizens, thus linking the schools with a social issue, such as the care and concern for both stray and endangered animals.
This was also obvious in the poster they created using photos from the internet, from different kinds of magazines and from their own drawings, giving voice to the endangered animals. “Give us water and food”, “don't leave rubbish in the forest or we will die”, “don't take our fur and horns..”, “don't make us leave the forest and the sea” are some of the thoughts of the children that were transferred to the poster.
As the school’s Director Dionisia Provata explained, the children say what the endangered animals cannot say, in order to raise awareness and make people understand that every creature has its place in nature and deserves respect and that “we can all live together because we are a ‘chain’ and if this chain ‘breaks’, the consequences will be disastrous. We owe it to nature, we owe it to ourselves, we owe it to our children and the generations to come!”
It is worth noting that this is not the first time that the pupils have showed their love and interest for their fellow humans, as during the Christmas holidays they prepared a small package of warm cotton socks for the people at the Corfu Municipal Nursing Home.
