CORFU. Organised by the Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands Municipality.
Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands Municipality is organising an international scientific conference in Corfu entitled “Ioannis Capodistrias: The visionary” on Friday 8, Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 October 2021. Historians and people of the literary world who have studied the life, work and era in which Capodistrias lived and worked, will take part in the conference.
The conference, which will be held at the Municipal Theatre, aims to shed light on Ioannis Capodistrias' career in Greece and Europe, as well as his vision for the modern world.
Distinguished scientists and professors from universities in Greece, Cyprus and Italy, as well as scientists and writers from cities that were important in Capodistrias' life, will all meet in Corfu in order to show aspects of his life and work – some of which have been unknown.
The three-day event will include scientific papers, presentations of literary works inspired by Capodistrias, as well as poetry and musical meetings, with works written for him or inspired by his era.
Alongside the conference, there will be presentations of Greek and Venetian books, exhibitions and guided tours in Corfu Town at the Corfu Archaeological Museum, the Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Municipal Art Gallery, the Antivouniotissa Museum, the Banknote Museum of the Ionian Bank (Alpha Bank) and the Capodistrias Museum.
The Mayor Meropi Ydraiou and the Deputy Mayor for Culture Chrysoula Tombrou spoke to the media, during a press conference, about the conference’s organisation.
All health protocols will be strictly adhered to.
