TUI Cruises flagship in Corfu Port

CORFU. Following several months without cruises due to Covid-19 the arrival of Mein Schiff 6 in Corfu signals the restart of cruise sector operations.
Early on Thursday 17 September the TUI Cruises vessel Mein Schiff 6 docked at Corfu Port on its virgin cruise for the 2020 tourist season.
The ship's arrival signals the end of the 6-month suspension of cruises coming to Corfu due to the coronavirus pandemic.
There are approximately 700 tourists on board and, according to information, over 75% disembarked to take part in the shore excursions organised by TUI Cruises.
Mein Schiff 6, which is the TUI Cruises flagship, set off from Heraklion on Sunday 13 September and visited Piraeus Port before coming to Corfu. The cruise ship will then return to Crete to complete its 7-day cruise.
The cruise package includes a concert by the famous Greek-German singer Vicky Leandros.
According to Heraklion Port Authority, where the 7-day cruise will set off every Sunday, the agreed emergency procedures if there is a case of COVID-19, both for the Port Authority and the ship, strictly follow the EU and national health protocols.
In a statement, the company said that the safety of passengers, staff and the Greek population is a top priority for TUI Cruises.
“Cruises are possible even in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. In collaboration with Greek authorities, we have drawn up a plan to ensure the highest level of safety for our passengers throughout the journey. I am very happy that we are contributing in this way to the recovery of tourism in Greece,” said the company’s CEO Wybcke Meier.
The company's safety procedures before and during the trip include:
- Passengers must have a negative COVID-19 test result before departure - the cost is included in the price of the ticket.
- Temperatures of passengers and crew taken daily.
- Mandatory online check-in.
- In order to adhere to proper distancing, capacity is limited to 60%.
- Extra cleaning and disinfection.
- The ship has a special medical area with specialised personnel.
- Arrival and departure flights are chartered by the company exclusively for Mein Schiff 6 passengers.
- All shore excursions in Piraeus, Crete and Corfu are organised exclusively by TUI Cruises.
