€396,000 in cruise ship fees for Central Corfu Municipality for May–July quarter

Corfu is receiving €396,000 in cruise ship fees, compared with €1.74 million for Santorini. The difference is mainly due to the fourfold higher charge per passenger applied in Santorini. Photo: Enimerosi

CORFU. The allocation of revenue to municipalities reflects where the income is generated, but not the full amount of the fee: only one third must be returned to the municipality where passengers disembark.

The amount allocated to the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands from the cruise passenger fee for the three-month period from May to July 2026 stands at €396,031.

The Ministry of Interior is allocating a total of €5,597,970.00 to municipalities across Greece.

According to the decision, Corfu, which ranks among the leading destinations for cruise itineraries in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Adriatic–Ionian region, is receiving this amount to improve local infrastructure and enhance its tourism product.

By way of comparison, the allocations for the other three major tourist destinations with high visitor numbers for the same three-month period are as follows:

  • Municipality of Mykonos: €1,924,584.95

  • Municipality of Thira (Santorini): €1,736,481.99

  • Municipality of Piraeus: €444,964.03

It should be noted that the amount received by local government represents one third of the total cruise passenger fee. In Corfu’s case, this amounts to approximately €1 per visitor.
