CORFU. The first episode of the six-part series ΄Greek Odyssey΄ presented by Bettany Hughes will be shown on British TV Channel 5 tonight (12/6)and will feature Corfu.
Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Municipality, as part of its ongoing efforts to attract international Television and cinema producers, has announced that the series 'Greek Odyssey', presented by the well-known British historian, writer and producer Bettany Hughes, is beginning with an episode dedicated to Corfu.
According the Municipality's press release, "Bettany Hughes, well-known for her books which draw their subject matter from Ancient Greece, has been popular with the British public for years for the historical documentaries she writes and presents on television networks such as BBC, the History Channel and Channel 5.
"The first episode of the six-part series, which will feature Corfu exclusively, will be broadcast tonight (Friday 12 June) on Channel 5.
"During her first visit to Corfu in October, Bettany Hughes met with Mayor Meropi Ydraiou and Deputy Mayor for Tourism Panayiotis Varouchas to discuss what material and technical assistance the Municipality could offer to cover the needs of the high-quality production.
"The Mayor invited the production team back to Corfu for a second series, which got a positive response from the team, who came back at the end of February.
"The Mayor said, "The broadcasting of the series just before the tourist season begins is very good timing for Corfu and helps to promote it in the British market" She pointed out that the Municipality and the Public Relations Office are making every effort to host and support these kind of broadcast on the islands.
"The Deputy Mayor for Tourism Panayiotis Varouchas spoke of the multiple benefits from film tourism and gave the example of the positive effect of the TV series The Durrells, which was partly filmed in Corfu."
