CORFU. Topics discussed were the establishment of a Health Region, common health procedures, extension of period of exemption from local taxes for businesses and the main topic - the ΄next day΄ for Corfu tourism.
The Tourism Crisis Management Committee held a teleconference on Saturday evening.
According to the Municipality of Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands press release, the organisations represented at the meeting expressed great concern regarding the planning of the 'next day' following the lifting of the lockdown measures.
The main issues discussed were the lack of liquidity in the market and the upcoming crisis due to the drop in tourism.
The need for an Ionian Islands Health Region to be established was discussed in order to deal immediately with health issues and give visitors an increased feeling of security in one of the country's main tourist destinations like Corfu.
Participants also discussed the need for common health procedures for the tourism sector to be adopted by all EU countries and for them to be properly coordinated and managed.
Another topic at the meeting was the extension of the period of exemption from some local taxes for businesses.
The Deputy Mayor for Tourism Panayiotis Varouchas said that the communications policy for the planning of the 'next day' would involve all the organisations and be in line with developments in the country on a European and global level as there is a constant state of flux and our actions must adapt to changing needs.
