Corfu MP says Corfu-Paxos-Patras will be the first hydroplane service

ATHENS. The Corfu ND MP Stefanos Gikas was given this assurance by the Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Yiannis Kefaloyiannis at their meeting in Athens on 16th December.
Corfu ND MP Stefanos Gikas met with the Deputy Minister responsible for waterways Yiannis Kefaloyiannis on Monday 16 December.
According to the office of the Corfu MP, the subject of the meeting was the legislation for the operation of waterways which has been submitted by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport for discussion until 27 December.
Stefanos Gikas told the Deputy Minister of the need for a waterway network in the Ionian Islands for the coming tourist season and the need for it to be extended with further licensed waterways.
The Deputy Minister gave Mr. Gikas his assurance that the first operational hydroplane service in Greece will be the Corfu - Paxos - Patras route as these waterways have already received a licence.
The Deputy Minister also said that he had been in contact with investors who have expressed an interest in the above route and that it is expected that waterways in Cephalonia and Zakynthos will also be added.
Following the meeting Mr. Gikas made the following statement:
"As we know, the legislation for waterways is under discussion in Parliament. I visited the Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Transport today and he updated me on the Ministry's plans for waterways and the development of networks.
I would like to thanks the Deputy Minister for the fact that the Corfu - Paxos - Patras route will be the first to go into operation - probably in May 2020.
Mr. Kefaloyiannis that other networks will be developed in the Cyclades and the Dodecanese but the priority is for a network in the Ionian Islands.
Parliament will vote on the legislation in January, so the necessary procedures will go forward quickly."
