CORFU. Corfu ND MP Stefanos Gikas met today with Major General Michail Klouvas to discuss the results of the inspections.
Major General Michail Klouvas, Head Engineer at the Hellenic National Defence General Staff and Head of the Design and Construction Unit (MOMKA) team, met today with Corfu ND MP Stefanos Gikas and informed him in detail about the results of the inspections conducted by the team in the last three days.
It should be noted that the inspections included 32 technical identifications at various points of the rivers in Messonghi, Potamos and Kavalaraina.
Mr. Klouvas talked about the need to carry out technical works, after hydraulic studies are conducted to determine the flow of the streams. He also referred to the repair of the road network in the area of the river in Messonghi, explained the method to be followed and indicated places where piles should be placed.
The team of Armed Forces experts will submit relevant technical studies for six areas, where immediate interventions are required, so that the projects can be contracted as soon as possible.
Regarding the Potamos Bridge, which the MP visited with the Major General, there are two solutions: the implementation of the existing technical study regarding the shoring of the bridge, which, according to the team's Head, is the most appropriate solution, or the installation of a military bridge, which and the easiest solution. The experts, however, recommend the first solution.
After the meeting, Mr. Gikas made the following statement:
“I would like to thank once again the Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, General Konstantinos Floros, since he ordered the Armed Forces team to come to Corfu, following a request from the Ionian Islands Regional Governor Rodi Kratsa.
For three days, the responsible Deputy Regional Governors Kostas Zorbas, Manolis Orphanoudakis and Nikos Miliotis, along with the regional and the municipal services and, of course, the Armed Forces team, conducted a thorough inspection of the affected areas. Specifically, they passed along the entire length of the river areas in Messonghi, Potamos and Kavalaraina. The team submitted its proposals, which, in combination with those of the Region, will eventually become interventions and damage repair projects to be implemented immediately.
I want to thank Major General Michail Klouvas and the Armed Forces team for their presence and contribution.”
