Licences approved for hydroplane infrastructure in Corfu and Paxos

CORFU. The licences were originally issued in 2014 and have now been certified.
The islands of Corfu and Paxi will soon be able to allow hydroplane flights to land there after Deputy Infrastructure and Transport Minister Michalis Papadopoulos approved the licences needed to found and operate hydroplane bases.
The licences were certified following an inspection of Corfu Port Authority by the Waterways Committee and cover Corfu Port and Gaios Port in Paxos.
The certification of the existing licences was implemented using the transitional statutes of the new legal framework. The licences were originally issued in 2014, again with Papadopoulos as minister, but had remained inactive since that time.
Licences for hydroplane bases are pending in Volos and Rethymno, Crete, until the necessary infrastructure has been built. The licensing procedure for the hydroplane base in Patras is also moving forward.
The Infrastructure and Transport Ministry is also examining another 25 applications for waterway licences - 20 for establishment licences and 5 for establishment and operating licences (Skyros, Alonnisos, Skopelos, Patmos and Tinos).
Corfu ND MP Stefanos Gikas posted the following statement on social media: "This is a significant and encouraging development as the region will soon have a useful and fast means of transport."
