CORFU. Nikos Reggis, who had been trapped in a ravine in Mourgada, Korakiana since last night, has been safely rescuedby the Fire Service and the Special Disaster Response Unit (EMAK).

The 41-year-old who was trapped all night in a ravine in Mourgada, Korakiana has been successfully rescued.

As Regional Fire Chief Andreas Rizos told Enimerosi earlier, the 41-year-old man was fortunate in that when he fell he was caught in a hollow in the rocks, which saved his life - there was a drop of at least 10 metres below him!

Finally, at around 13:00 - having waited for the weather conditions to improve - the man was rescued from the ravine by the Fire Service assisted by a team from the Special Disaster Response Unit (EMAK) which had come from Ioannina this morning.

Nikos Reggis, who had been walking last night and fell into the ravine, is in good health apart from a minor injury to his arm and exhaustion from being trapped in the rocks all night. He was, nevertheless, taken to Corfu General Hospital to be examined.
