A rescue operation was launched on Thursday afternoon, 1/1, in the village of Antiperni in North Corfu, after a 60-year-old woman was found trapped inside a well.
The incident began when a dog fell into the well under unclear circumstances. In an attempt to help the animal, the 60-year-old woman decided to climb down using a rope. However, she became trapped halfway down, unable to either climb back up or descend safely.
Her cries for help were heard by a village resident, who immediately alerted the authorities.
The response from the Fire Service was swift and extensive. In total, the following were mobilised:
-
5 fire service vehicles
-
15 firefighters, including members of EMODE (the Special Forest Firefighting Unit)
-
One specialised vehicle equipped with advanced gear and trained personnel for deep-rescue operations
After coordinated efforts and against the pressure of time, firefighters managed to safely rescue both the 60-year-old woman and the dog. Despite the ordeal and shock, both are reported to be in good health.
