Kostas Nikolouzos: I΄m willing to update Alekos Avlonitis on the refuse situation

In response to the proposal from the new Corfu MP Alekos Avlonitis the Mayor of Corfu stated that the waste problem was a daily matter of concern for all the mayors. The Mayor didn't hide his displeasure that the proposal was posted on Facebook without getting in touch with him directly - "my office is always open to any citizen and of course to elected representatives".

He also said that every effort was being made to overcome the problems and that he was willing to update him personally.

The Mayor's letter:

Dear Alekos,

I understand your concern regarding the refuse collection problem in Corfu which, unfortunately, is due to a combination of negative factors.

To be honest, I expected that before you posted on Facebook and spoke to the media you would have got in touch with me to discuss the matter. As you well know, the Mayor's office is always open to any citizen and of course to Corfu's elected representatives.

I would like to assure you that we are making every effort to overcome the obstacles created by the current problems - legal and otherwise and waste management is one of the issues of concern at my meetings with the newly-elected mayors.

I consider your proposal for a meeting with a wide range of participants to be a positive suggestion and in the meantime am available to update you on the subject personally.
