Chef Marina from Corfu to take our gastronomic culture to southern Italy

CORFU. «Our own» Marina from Corfu will travel to southern Italy taking our gastronomic culture with her.
Kitchen means home and home often means a return or ‘nostos’. Since ancient times humans have needed to travel – either searching for new experiences or for their needs.
The Municipality of Corfu is part of the Marco Polo System and Mayor Kostas Nikolouzos has signed a collaboration agreement with its administrator Pietrangelo Petteno. He is also organizing the gastronomic trip to southern Italy for Marina, who has her own traditional taverna in Corfu Old Town by the Venetian Fortress. Marina Beska will take the gastronomic culture of the Phaeacians and Venetians to the lands that Ulysses left towards the end of his travels when searching for a way to return home, finding shelter in hospitable Corfu from King Alkinoos.
Other than following legends, the aim of this initiative is to promote closer relations between the two countries, to strengthen the new but dynamic network ‘European Silk Road – Marco Polo Routes’ and to promote the Mediterranean Diet, which is recognized as a UNESCO Heritage.
As with the Lepanto Network Diaries and the European Silk Road, the Marco Polo System will coordinate the promotion and communication for the trip with a view to encouraging further collaboration in the fields of tourism and local development.
