CORFU. As announced earlier, work to replace part of the problematic pipeline in Chrysiida will begin in September. The project will be financed by DEYAK and executed by a contractor that has already been chosen and agreed to undertake the work.
According to the announcement by the Mayor and President of DEYAK, Stelios Poulimenos, the projects will be carried out as follows:
A. Sotiriotissa: Replacement of 1,410 metres of an old PVC water main (installed in 1980) with a modern third-generation polyethylene (PE) pipeline, 250 mm in diameter (Ø250 mm), with a pressure rating of PN 16.
B. Corfu Town (Nikolaou Armeni Street): Replacement of 1,400 metres of the main iron water pipe (installed in 2000) with a new, highly durable ductile iron pipeline, 500 mm in diameter (Ø500 mm).
C. Rankio (between Potamos and Evropouli): Replacement of 1,750 metres of an old iron water main (installed around 1980) with a new third-generation PE pipeline, 110 mm in diameter (Ø110 mm), with a pressure rating of PN 16.
D. Achilleio Municipal Unit: Complete replacement of 4,300 metres of old iron water mains (installed around 1980), divided as follows:
- Gastouri village: 600 metres of new third-generation PE pipeline (Ø110 mm, PN 16).
- From the Achilleio reservoir to Pikoulatika: 3,700 metres of new third-generation PE pipeline (Ø140 mm). To withstand hydrostatic pressure, the first 1,000 metres will have a PN 25 pressure rating, while the remaining 2,700 metres will have a PN 20 pressure rating.
