CORFU. The incident occurred over the weekend in the third- and fourth-grade classrooms, confirming long-standing warnings about problems with the roof.

Another incident of falling ceiling plaster has been reported at the main building of the 10th Primary School of Corfu in Kanoni. The damage was discovered on Monday morning on the building’s first floor, where the third- and fourth-grade classrooms are located.

Fortunately, the incident took place over the weekend, resulting in no injuries. At the start of the school day, teachers immediately prohibited pupils from entering the affected classrooms for safety reasons.

According to a relevant social media post by Antonis Koursaris, president of the Corfu Primary Education Teachers’ Union (SEPE), the school administration and teaching staff had formally notified the relevant services of the Municipality of Central Corfu a year ago about the serious problem of water infiltration in the roof.

Despite strong and continuous pressure from the Parents’ and Guardians’ Association to repair the damage, the appeals of the responsible bodies within the school community had not been addressed up to the time of the incident.
