Primary school pupil hospitalised following fight at school
CORFU. An incident of violence involving primary school pupils ended with one child being admitted to hospital. The episode occurred during a school break, while the injured child’s parents filed a complaint against teachers.
A violent incident involving young primary school pupils in Corfu Town has drawn the attention of the local community and the relevant authorities. The matter is considered serious given the outcome, as one pupil was admitted to hospital and remains hospitalised.
The incident occurred on Monday inside the school during a break, when the children escaped the attention of teachers, got into an argument, and then became involved in a fight. According to the parents of the young pupil, the child was attacked by several other children, resulting in injuries. The boy’s mother was called to the school and picked him up. Later, because the child complained of pain, he was taken to hospital, where he was admitted.
The following day, the injured child’s father went to the police and reported the incident, resulting in the arrest of school staff members, who were later released following a verbal order from the prosecutor.
The case also came to the attention of the Primary Education Directorate, while the injured pupil’s parents filed charges against the teachers and the parents of the other children. The Primary Education Teachers’ Association (SEPE) was informed of the incident as well. Due to the sensitivity of the matter, no public statements were issued.
