΄Old΄ Philharmonic Society concert with works by contemporary Ionian composers
Corfu Philharmonic Society Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of the renowned conductor Alkis Baltas, invites you to a special concert on Wednesday, March 18 at 8:30 p.m. at Corfu Municipal Theatre, in an evening dedicated to the group of “Contemporary Ionian Composers.”
Since the time of the founder of the Ionian School, the emblematic Nikolaos Halikiopoulos Mantzaros, lifelong Artistic Director of the 'Old' Philharmonic, a continuous and unbroken stream of creators and composers has appeared on the historical stage.
One such distinguished representative group today is the “Contemporary Ionian Composers.” These are artists who have experienced the cultural environment of the Ionian Islands and are aware of the profound heritage that is carried forward through their work. Each composer has a unique artistic path and style, yet together their collective compositional output is worthy of recognition.
What makes the concert particularly noteworthy is that the programme consists exclusively of nine contemporary and previously unknown works, eight of which will receive their world premiere performance.
The 'Old' Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, whose schools supply members to many similar ensembles both within and beyond Corfu, innovates and promotes—just as the founding character of the Philharmonic Society requires—the dissemination and advancement of contemporary musical art and its native representatives.
Works of the following composers will be performed - Kostas Agouridis, Pavlos Ventura, Spyros Mazis, Spyros Mavropoulos, Chrysanthos Mouzakitis, Spyros Prosoparis, Nikos Roditis, Spyros Rouvas, and Spyros Tsilibaris. The soprano Despina Mouratidis will appear as the vocal soloist.
The concert is dedicated to the recently deceased member of the group, Chrysanthos Mouzakitis.
