Large, heartfelt march for Tempi in Corfu Town
CORFU. The town centre was packed with people.
With justice as the rallying cry, Corfu honoured the memory of the victims of the Tempi tragedy with one of the largest gatherings in recent years. The mobilisation, which began at 12:00 noon at Porta Reale, turned the town’s streets into a river of protest.

The participation was all-encompassing, uniting every age and social group:
Pupils and students: At the front lines, chanting and carrying their own signs.
Professional bodies and unions: Pressing for safety in transport and in society at large.

Many parents took part alongside their young children, lending a particularly moving tone to the march.
The march began at Porta Reale and proceeded toward the town’s historic centre. The police had implemented special security measures, managing traffic and monitoring the route to ensure the demonstration proceeded smoothly.

Minor Tension in the Old Town
Before the start of the gathering, a minor incident occurred in the Old Town. A local resident attempted to drive his car through the area where the crowd was gathered, resulting in a brief clash/confrontation with the participants.

Police quickly escorted the driver away from the scene, conducted a check, and recorded his details. The situation de-escalated without further incident after the driver withdrew.
The march then continued as planned, with banners and chants dominating the streets, sending a resounding message: “This crime will not be forgotten.”
