North Corfu Municipality wins 3rd recycling award!

CORFU. North Corfu Municipality has won yet another award - the third in a year - for its recycling and circular economy activities.
North Corfu Municipality is the only newly-established municipality amongst the 31 which won awards on Saturday 20 March at the 4th International Exhibition organised by Verde.tec - Environmental Technologies at the MEC in Attica.
The 2022 Greek Green Award for 'Volunteers' in the 'Recycling' category was presented to North Corfu Mayor Giorgos Mahimaris and Deputy Mayor for Circular Economy, Environment and Public Relations Spyridoula Kokkali.
The Verde.tec exhibition is the biggest environmental technology exhibition in Greece and over the three days 18-20 March over 220 speakers had the opportunity to talk about and demonstrate all the key environmental issues. Experts and specialist companies and organisations, private and public, also took part in 32 seminars and workshops.
Deputy Mayor Spyridoula Kokkali presented what North Corfu Municipality has been doing for the circular economy since 2019, with 130 recycling centres with four or more streams, the network, schools and hotels, focussing on the three Rs - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
At the opening of the exhibition, the General Secretary for the Coordination of Waste Management at the Ministry for the Environment & Energy Manolis Grafakos gave a welcome address, along with other MPs, Mayors and representatives from political parties and other organisations.
